Young Life Philosophy

Relational Model: Contact Work

This is the integral part of what Young Life is all about. We seek to build contact with young people by placing adult volunteer leaders at schools, sporting activities, shopping centres and anywhere else young people are. All our ‘programs’ are simply tools to help build relationships and connect with young people in their world.

Schools - A major part of what Young Life does involves our work in schools. Our approach in schools is to serve. We come alongside the teachers and students to serve in areas where there is a need. Our adult volunteers offer different services depending on the specific needs of a school and its community. Our desire is to enhance the school experience and foster a stronger and more resilient community. Below are just some of the many and varied services we offer:

Mentor program
Leadership program ie. assist development of Student Representative Council (SRC)
Pancake breakfasts
Scripture teaching and coordinating Scripture Seminars
Coaching and training sporting teams
Teacher’s Aid ie. Assisting in Remedial program, helping with sport carnivals, playground duty
Organising and supervising lunchtime activities
Supervision of a variety of school camps; Junior and Middle school, surf camp, ski camp, outdoor education camp, Biology camp etc
After school tutoring
Supervision of school excursions and student socials
Working with students on community service projects such as soup kitchens
Supporting at risk students and assisting in drop in centres
Provision of donations to the school

Here are some of the schools we are currently operating in

Weekly Events - Historically referred to as 'Club', these events are best described as 'controlled chaos'. A typical event includes humorous games, skits, songs and energetic fun that allows young people to drop the mask and just be kids. The event ends with a brief talk on some aspect of the Christian Faith. more information on your local area event

Camp - The camp experience is life-changing and therefore a strategic part of Young Life. It is a combination of adventure, relationship-building and the living out of the Christian faith. Young Life Australia currently runs two annual camps - one in winter and one in summer. more information on camping

Small Groups - These small group activities are organised by adult leaders. The aim is to reach out to young people through activities which will attract their interest such as shopping, movies night, hobbies, sporting activities or a bible study group.

Ski Mission - Young Life uses water skiing as a tool to help develop self esteem in young people, connecting them with small victories through achievement. Ski Mission helps facilitate and build relationships between young people and their leaders. They also maintain external relationships with other organisations serving their needs as required. more information on Ski Mission
