Five minutes with Bridie Codling, the work experience girl...

Bridie Codling is a spirited young lady who attends Abbotsleigh girls high school on Sydney's north shore. Her father, Michael, is a recent supporter of Young Life Australia, and when Bridie's year adviser encouraged the students to seek out work experience for a week in June, Michael arranged for Bridie to get a taste of a week in the life of this youth mentoring charity.

It's pleasing to be able to report that not only was Bridie a hard worker and very diligent, but her infectious energy, heart for helping and positive nature was a real blessing for everyone who came into contact with her. So just who is Bridie Codling? Let's get a five minute snapshot.

What's your nickname?

Bri/Bridiebug/Briddles

How many facebook friends do you have?

404

Have you bought an iPad yet?

No, but my family almost did.

Where do you go to school and do you like it?

Abbotsleigh Year-10 and yes

Why and how did you choose Young Life national office for your work experience?

My dad suggested this work because he knows Philip (the marketing manager).

When and how did you become a Christian?

I grew up in a Christian environment but it wasn't until Year 7 that I really started thinking about who Christ is and what he has done for us. I went on a weekend away early that year and it was really encouraging to see what Christians look like and how they live. From then on I have grown more in my faith and keep learning exciting and challenging new things through His word.

How important is your religious faith in your life?

My faith is the most important thing in my life! I think it defines who I am and I believe there is no better way to live than with Christ as the centre of everything. I want to do so much for God and praise Him wherever and whenever I can.

What are your priorities in life and do you live by a motto?

My priorities in life begin with God (youth group, church, prayer breakfasts, etc), then probably school, then family and friends, but I guess they change sometimes. I don't really have a motto, but it would be leaning somewhere towards “Praise God” or “keep praying”.

What are your five favourite things to do (hobbies / interests / pastimes)

Bake, watch TV, read a good novel, draw, and hang out with friends.

Your favourite TV shows?

Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Gossip Girl, So You Think You Can Dance, One Tree Hill, Dawson's Creek, Life, House.

What kind of music do you like?

I like alternative, acoustic and of course some praise and worship!

Favourite film so far this year?

Valentine's Day.

What is your overall impression of Young Life Australia now that you have been here for a week?

I believe that Young Life Australia is an amazing and important organisation. I think the purpose of the work here and the way they approach reaching out to youth is significant in bringing more people to the Kingdom.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

In 10 years I hope to have completed a psychology degree at university, gone overseas on mission, work for Young Life in America, be working in the ministry field somehow, find a nice Christian man and possibly be married!
